DAY of over-cast-ness at the Journal Pavilion, Albuquerque, NM.
OK, hurry up and wait.
the average day for me starts an hour and a half before departure from the hotels...
then, there is the trip to the venue, today it was a $30.00 cab ride of around
35 minutes in a smoke-saturated cab.
the day's tasks are usually taken up with building the keyboard rig,
setting up both guitar rigs, sans pedals and such and then miking up the drum kit.
the latter is dependent on when the kit actually gets built. so, there is sometimes
an unusual amount of down time ( currently Slightly Stoopid is listening to a song
they recorded in their bus! and it is sweet...!)
the wind is playing hell with the Vertec rig, the hangs are gently panning
left to right and the high end is washing around.

i get to spend some time on this here pooter in my attempts to bring some of the
road to you all... the sun really wants to come out, it is, i must say,
VERY pleasant right now! the lighting wizards are just now lifting the front truss.
there's a rigger riding up and he will crawl out on the truss, now some 25-30 feet
off the deck, to position fixtures. for you tech heads, the dimmer rack has Siegfried
and Roy, world tour painted on it!
just got a call from Shure, the microphone folks.. we have been attempting to work out
some form of endorsement or accommodation for Toots for the past two weeks and
have just made headway! after a 15 min conversation i have been told to expect a call
from Nashville! who knows, maybe we will get these things yet!
and wouldn't you know it, 10 min later i spent 20 more min on the phone with Nashville!
the truss is down,... i feel rain,... the truss is going up again...
(... is an indefinite period of time, usually 20 or so minutes)

so, here we are, been here since 11:30 am, got all my chores and lunch done by1:00,
it is 4:15 and doors are open, the Marleys, who were supposed to sound check at 2:00
have just arrived, it is "pizzeling"( kinda pissy-drizzeling ), the plastic is out
and covering EVERYTHING.. and no audience yet.. wonder if it has anything to do with
the predominantly Hispanic- Christian population ..???? we will see. some are arriving.

... we have now attempted to tie off the hang, it seems to be swinging less in the wind.
...i hope the wind dies down, it is picking up.

so, by the time WE hit the stage the rain had ceased, the wind died down and it got rather cold. However, the show went really well save the intermittent popping of the TOM 1 mic. Trevor, the monitor tech got it really quickly, he IS good!
wish we could take him along!
the cover over the mix position went away as well making it easy to mix the show! personally, i think it sounded really good.

almost forgot,
the wind was really amazing. the catering tent was flapping harshly in the wind. if you have never experienced these kinds of winds you might think the world is going to come crashing down on your head!
i have been there, it was cool! and in addition, the rain and cooler temperatures were ok too!
while the rest of the entourage was wearing sweats, wind breakers and other outer wear, yours truly was perfectly content in a tank top!

onward!
BACK!
